The three Conspiracy novels follow a veteran of the struggle, a game warden and the warden’s wife through the rhino, elephant and lion trades. Thandi and The Veteran carry through into Smuggler Kingpin as well, alongside the Sniper and the South African security minister Yasmin, so all five of the recent novels run as one sequence. They are published in the United Kingdom by Muswell Press, and the earlier titles in South Africa by Jonathan Ball.
The first of them came out of a visit to Thula Thula in KwaZulu-Natal in 2015, where rhinos were being guarded around the clock by armed men. He was travelling to South Africa regularly by then and had begun to see what was being taken out of the country under Jacob Zuma. The Rhino Conspiracy, published by Jonathan Ball in 2020, came out of both. Several of the characters have recognisable counterparts in South African public life.
His first novel, The Peking Connection, came out in 1995.
Earlier titles
Most of these are out of print. Several were written while he was still in his twenties.
